March 1st 2011 Tim Candler

Always tricky to think about
rain, but March and April need rain. Not that four inches in half an
hour rain, but the long, slow drizzle of a potato rain.
The kind of rain that brings on
slime mold and sends a person to his dictionary of epithets. The kind of
rain that turns the mind to snails and heliciculture.

Last year March was good, April was
dry. In early May nine inches of rain fell in weekend. And then
rain pretty much went away. Difficult to know what might happen this
year.
In Britain Escargot have been called
"Wall Fish". Neither fish nor flesh. The observant Christian was
permitted to eat snails through Lent, which this year is March 9th through
April 23rd.
